Ultrasound
Redtail Equine’s portable ultrasound is a very versatile imaging modality. It is often used to help with lameness diagnostics and healing by finding and monitoring tears in tendons and ligaments. The other most frequent use for ultrasound is to monitor the estrus cycles of broodmares in preparation for breeding and in checking for and monitoring pregnancy. It can also be used in colic and diagnosing pneumonia (and other chest/lung conditions).
Endoscopy
Redtail Equine’s newest imaging modality is a 1m upper airway endoscope. This is used to view the structures in the back of the throat, guttural pouches, and upper trachea. Have a horse who makes strange sounds during exercise or seems exercise intolerant? Have a horse with swelling in the throat latch area? Need to test a horse for certain airway infections or have a horse with nose bleeds? All of these conditions often need an upper airway scope to diagnose or treat.
